To all EU droners.. DJI recently updated their geo-fencing for us to fly more safely around airports.. DroneDJ explains quite well what this means for us so I'm not going to repeat it but see below what this means in real time on your DJI app (if you fly a DJI drone).
With the old system, it was a simple circle around the airport not considering much more than the runway & leaving a gap for airplane corridors (you know, when landing & taking off). This is where there is some of the higher risks, as the airplane is maneuvering to land with often hundreds of passengers on-board.
With the new geo-fencing system, Runways are better covered as well as warning zones. These have been extended to offer more security for both sides, droners & others.
I personally welcome this initiative, & hope other manufacturers will follow shortly to provide a safer place for all to fly. Didn't happen to me yet, but I really don't want to be in this plane calling to its passengers one day "This is your captain speaking, we will be deviated because of an &à"%! flying near the runway without permission"
If you're from Europe, do you see the before/after on your DJI app's map? Share it!
