Recreational vs Commercial drone use in Jordan
Jordan (Petra) does not seem to differentiate commercial & recreational drone uses. Both are subject to strict restrictions & a code of conduct. In every case, you will need a form permit to fly your drone in Jordan.

Can I travel to Jordan (Petra) with my drone?
🚨 Drones without a permission are forbidden & it seems according to online forums that your drone will simply be ceased so we wouldn't recommend you to take your drone there. Unlike other countries such as Morocco which has an "airport drone deposit process" in place, we understand that Jordan customs will not be that arranging unfortunately.

🚨 Be aware of the airline you purchase to travel as some main ones will only accept your drone on-board if its batteries are detached & placed in a firecase during travel time. Most airlines will have a battery voltage limit based on the recommendation of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). You can find more info about a specific airline here.

Where can I fly my drone in Jordan?
🚨 Do not fly your drone if you do not have a permit form.
🕌 To fly at Petra, you will need a completed drone permission issued by the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission of Jordan (see further down how to obtain it).
💡 Smart! Pack some spare drone batteries, you never know how close is the next power plug overseas. Also make sure you have a travel adaptor for Jordan.
Recreational & Commercial Drone use in Jordan
🚨 For any flight, you will need a permission prior taking off. To be able to obtain it, you need to be at least 21 years old & have relevant training or qualifications. Additionally, you will need an insurance to operate your drone in Jordan & follow some basic flight rules.
In all circumstances you must fly:
at a maximum altitude of 121m above the ground (45m if flying above the city of Amman) & 500 m away from you.
away from private property, vehicles in movement, people or large crowds & respect individuals' privacy.
a maximum flight time of 3 h (it is unclear if this is at once or during your whole stay).
a drone weighting less than 25 kg working with electric rotors, equipped with geo-fencing & an electronic identification only such as the Mavic Pro 2
away from airports (any airport or area where aircraft or helicopter take off & land) & give way to all other type of aircraft.
away from areas where its use could interfere with police or first responders.
avoiding sensitive areas including government or military facilities.
How to obtain a permit to fly my drone in Jordan?
✅ Jordanian Civil Aviation made things a little easier with this online form. To complete it, you will simply need to indicate your personal information along all your drone & flight operations' details so local authorities can approve it for you. You will need to provide:
a copy of your passport
an insurance
the full information about your flight and drone specs
a copy of your local agreements and approvals (optional)
a copy of your qualifications or past experience flying a drone
🕔 You should submit the form at least 10 working days ahead to allow time to local authorities to process your information 👌
What do I risk for flying a drone illegally in Jordan?
The amount & scope of the fine will depend on the nature & severity of your infraction. The judges will also evaluate if you intentionally committed the infraction and/or if you had any commercial purposes to do such.
