Recreational vs Commercial drone use in Venezuela


Venezuela differentiates between commercial & recreational drone use - see our post to differentiate recreational vs commercial drone usage. Both are subject to registration & a code of conduct.

Can I travel to Venezuela with my drone?

✅ Currently, there doesn't seem to be any restrictions on bringing drones within Venezuela as long as your import is considered as legitimate (generally one drone per person).

🚨 Be aware of the airline you purchase to travel as some main ones will only accept your drone on-board if its batteries are detached & placed in a firecase during travel time. Most airlines will have a battery voltage limit based on the recommendation of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). You can find more info about a specific airline here.

 

Where can I fly my drone in Venezuela?


✅ We did not find an official fly zone map for drones in Venezuela "If you have more information about this, please let us in the Forum know anytime". However, app.airmap.io has listed all flight zones in a convenient way based on your flight intentions.

Recreational Drone use in Venezuela


✅ First thing first, if you're less than 16 years old, you will need to be supervised by an adult at all times while flying your drone in Venezuela. Any drones in the country, should be registered prior taking off.


With this in mind, you will need to follow a few rules:

  • mark your drone with your full name and phone number

  • fly your drone at a maximum of 122 m max & within sight at all times

  • fly away from private property, vehicles in movement, crowds, people (50 m) & respect individuals' privacy.

  • It is recommend to subscribe to an insurance

  • fly at least 5 km away from airports (any airport, seaplane base or area where aircraft or helicopter take off & land) & give way to all other type of aircraft.

  • give priority to all other categories of aircraft. If you see a plane or helicopter during your flight, land your drone immediately.

  • do not fly in a formation (with other drones) or undertake acrobatic maneuvers.

  • fly away from transmission antennas of any kind.

  • do not carry, tow or drop anything while flying your drone.

How to register my drone in Venezuela?


✅ This is a compulsory step for any one wishing to fly a drone in Venezuela. The conutry created an easy 1 step online process via this online portal (SIRPA). You will need to send information including:

  • your personal details

  • your drone's technical information

  • the full details of your flight(s) path/zone

🚨 Note that you will need a local Venezuelan phone number to be able to register.

 

Commercial Drone use in Venezuela


✅ To fly a drone for commercial use in Venezuela, you will need:

  1. to register it online via this online portal SIRPA (same portal as for recreational use).

  2. complete & submi the "SOLICITUD DE INSCRIPCIÓN DE AERONAVES PILOTADAS A DISTANCIA" online form (you will need a copy of: the bylaws of the requesting company, the identity card of the shareholders & members of the Board of Directors, as well as a copy of the tax information register (RIF) of the company).

  3. Pay online via the SITGA platform (which you will need to register to if first time).


🚨 Make sure to have a third party insurance to cover your drone activity in Venezuela as this is mandatory and your permit will be denied if you don't have one. Your insurance contract must be presented in the British Insurance Tower (Altamira Sur, Av. José Félix Sosa c / Av. Luis Roche Chacao, Caracas) floor 3 in the area of ​​legal consulting (reception of documents). 🕔 Mon - Fri: 8:30 am - 12:30 pm & 1:30 - 4:30 pm


🕔 Allow 8 days for the Venezuelan administration to process your demand.


💲 It will cost you 100 Venezuelan tax units ("current inflation rates in Venezuela makes it impossible for us to give you a rough conversion due to the volatility of the Venezuelan market at we write this post).

🚨 The amount & scope of the fine will depend on the nature & severity of your infraction. The judges will also evaluate if you intentionally committed the infraction and/or if you had any commercial purposes to do such.
