Recreational vs Commercial drone use in Andorra
Andorra differentiates commercial & recreational drone use - see our post to differentiate recreational vs commercial drone use. Both uses are subject to strict restrictions, registrations & a code of conduct which is based on the drone's weight and/or your flight(s) purpose(s).

✅ Andorra distinguishes drones into 4 categories based on their weight:
below 999 g (category A0)
between 1 kg & 3,99 kg (category A1)
between 4 kg & 25 kg (category A2)
🚨 drones over 25 kg need to comply with civil aviation levels.
Can I bring my drone to Andorra?
✅ Currently, there are no restrictions on bringing drones within the Andorra as long as your import is considered as legitimate (generally one drone per person).
🚨 Be aware of the airline you purchase to travel as some main ones will only accept your drone on-board if its batteries are detached & placed in a firecase during travel time. Most airlines will have a battery voltage limit based on the recommendation of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). You can find more info about a specific airline here.
Where can I fly my drone in Andorra?
🚨 We didn't find any official drone flight map given by the Andorran Authorities but in all cases you should not fly above urban areas including but not limited to:
Admin buildings of Prat de la Creu, Obac & Prat del Rull. & all other municipalities.
The buildings on French & Spanish borders.
The Justice Palace/Hall & Embassies
La Comella Prison
✅ Once a year, the ski station of GrandValira organises their "Bird's Eye View" day by setting up a drone to fly over the ski resort and slopes to transmit in real time - more info.
Recreational & Commercial drone use in Andorra
✅ If your drone weights less than 3.99 kg & you fly away from urban areas, you will not need to register or hold any license. For all other flights & drones of category (A2), you will need to register online prior flying your drone. In all cases, to fly safely, you should:
fly at a maximum altitude of 150 m above the ground *Note, for drones of less than 999 g or if you do not hold a license, your are limited to 50 m max flight altitude.
fly a drone that weights less than 25 kg
away from urban areas of all kinds without approval, people or crowds (including concerts or sports events) & respect individuals' privacy.
do not take off if 12 people or more gather around you.
away from airports & give way to all other type of aircraft.
only during permitting weather, during day time & within your sight at all times.
✅ For all commercial flights, you will need to register firstly, no matter your drone's weight.
How to register my drone in Andorra?
If your drone weights between 1 & 25 kg or you wish to undertake a commercial flight, you will firstly need to register your drone via this form. You will be ask detailed info about:
your complete personal details
your drone's specs including photos & the manufacturer's technical sheet.
your license (if you have one).
🚨 If your drone does not have an electronic identification system, you will need to mark it with your full personal details so it can be easily traceable to authorities.
Secondly, you will need to ask for an authorisation of flight via this form. At this point, you will be asked info about:
your drone's full technical characteristics including its serial number & its category.
your complete personal details.
your formation or any license you might hold.
a copy of your insurance (needs to cover you up to 750,000€ minimum).
an evaluation of the risks undertaken during your flight.
the duration of your flight needs (1 time, 1 or 6 months).
✅ You will need to send all your paperwork at least 20 working days prior your flight(s) to give time to authorities to answer. If any changes happen once submitted or prior your approved flight(s), you will need to notify it at least 5 working days ahead.
✅ In case of an accident or serious incident you need to inform the Ministry of Public Administration, Transports & Telecommunication without any delays.
What do I risk for flying a drone illegally in Andorra?
Minor infringement: warning &/or up to 6,000€ fine
Serious infringement: up to 150,000€ fine
Very serious infringement: up to 600,000€ fine
