As you've found out the Spark is a great little drone that is designed for general purposes than can be used anywhere indoors or outdoors. This drone features all of the best technology available on larger DJI models, but is packed into a small, lightweight, and portable format factor that is easy to fly.
The DJI Spark in a nutshell
â Overall the Spark is an excellent travel companion and a perfect mate for taking these lifetime memories. But some features are frankly quite outstanding considering its size and price with many that would only be seen on more expensive/bigger models within competition such as:
Obstacle avoidance: the drone comes with a frontal sensor that sense obstacles up to 5 m ahead and land safely if needed.
Return to home: if you loose control or signal, the drone can automatically come back to its starting point by flying up to 30 m and using its obstacle avoidance system.
Gesture recognition: you can take amazing aerial photos using just hand gestures, without a remote controller or mobile device. With FaceAware, Spark lifts off from your hand by recognising your face.
Mechanical Gimbal Stabilization: your imagery will be stable and neat, no more blurred content and hello to wow effect homemade aerial videos.
đ¨ It is not all perfect tho.. as some aspects (usually untold) might pull you off such as:
Noise: for its size, you would expect something quieter. Unfortunately the small propellers sounds like a big fly scaring off wildlife and making it little wind resistant.
Integrated camera: whilst the camera is great today, it is fixed to the drone meaning if you want a better lens, you will need to change of drone.
Battery's emplacement: some members have reported the Spark batteries falling off during the flight. Good news is that there is an easy fix for that (see below).
â Final good news is that alike all DJI drones, the Spark comes with the DJI App and offers intelligent flight modes and intuitive controls help you create cinematic aerial videos with just a few taps (see below). You can also automatically edit templates and an array of filters to share them straight to social media.
What intelligent flight modes come with the DJI Spark?
Quickshot: it helps you shoot amazing footage with 4 modes: Rocket (Ascend pointing downward) | Dronie (Fly backward and upward, with the camera locked on your subject) | Circle (Circle around your target) | Helix (Fly upward, spiralling around your subject.
Tapfly: envision your shot and the drone captures it for you. Tap your phone screen and your Spark will fly in the direction of your tap or exactly where you tapped while actively sensing obstacles. Capture shot after shot with just your fingertips.
Stay on target: Spark automatically recognizes objects of different shapes and sizes then tracks them according to what they are and how fast they move. This makes tracking much easier and more reliable. You can either "trace" or "profile" (following from a fixed perspective) your subject.
Gesture: Probably the coolest for its purpose, the Spark can take selfies with simple hand motions. With PalmControl mode, control Sparkâs movement by hand. It recognises different hand gestures for: selfies | launch | wave | beckon | control or even fly away keeping you in the camera.
What about the Spark's camera?
Its pretty good for its price, really good actually... The drone has a 2-axis mechanical gimbal which keeps your image stable while filming for example.
The camera has an f2.6 wide-angle lens allowing vivid and sharp photos to be made easily. Several shooting modes come along your purchase including panorama, sphere panorama, 180° panorama, vertical panorama and horizontal shallow focus. It also has a compact 1/2.3 inch CMOS sensor shooting videos in HD (1080p) and taking photos at 12 megapixels (MP).
đĄ If you want the real deal then you should consider the DJI Goggles (FPV). Switch to Sport Mode and unleash the drone's speed potential. Sport Mode sets the gimbal mode to FPV by default, so the camera moves with you as you fly.
How well does the Spark fly?
The DJI Spark will be enough to cover all your daily shots and more.. It can fly up to 2 kms away from you with HD Wi-Fi technology allows for 720p real-time video transmission. It can also reach up to 50 km / h and fly for a duration of up to 16 mins per fully charged battery.
The Spark's Intelligent Flight Battery has a capacity of 1480 mAh and a voltage of 11.4 V. Spark uses a high energy density LiPo battery for optimal performance. Additionally, the batteries estimates remaining flight time, letting you know when to land in real-time.
