2020 NY's fireworks in Shanghai
Shanghai took a different approach to New Year’s Eve celebrations this year. Instead of using fireworks, the city deployed synchronized drones to create stunning aerial designs. Two thousand drones flew over the Huangpu River, forming designs and patterns across the skyline of China’s biggest city.
The spectacle amazed viewers and highlighted how far drone technology has come in recent years. State-run media believes the display draws attention to “the huge changes and glorious achievements Shanghai has made in the past 40 years of reform and opening up.”
At a time when cities are searching for firework alternatives, drones are a safer, less noisy, and environmentally friendly option for large-scale celebrations. It also serves as another compelling use case for drone technology. Over the next decade, we are likely to discover many more ingenious purposes for flying bots.
