Met with Parks Victoria, along with representatives from Victorian Drone Flyers facebook group, today to discuss recreational drone flying in PV managed parks.
A productive meeting and whilst nothing was resolved, representatives at the meeting were keen to progress change in the current rules.
It is clear that there are a number of state government departments who will need to be considered and brought into the consultations and some state and national legislation to be overcome.
What was a bit of a shock was the revelation that some PV parks are not out of bounds for drone flyers as previously thought, not only by we humble representatives it seems, but also representatives of PV! As a result, an undertaking was given to disclose these areas available on the PV website when some internal processes have been completed. What was obvious, was the lack of information available to droners both on the website and on the ground. Communication and education were identified as key issues.
It was agreed that some areas are clearly unsuitable for safe droning whilst others could be open without restriction. We were told that this information would already be in hand and relatively easy to catalogue.
It's progress at least, and hopefully positive outcomes can be achieved in a relatively short period of time.
I recommend that serious enthusiasts sign up to Victorian Drone Flyers Facebook group as I'm a firm believer in the power of numbers which was evident today.
There will be further meetings.
Please keep us informed of further meetings would be happy to attend.
