French firefighters welcomed a couple of new team members to fight the devastating fire that burned down Notre Dame de Paris last 15th of April. They used a Mavic Pro and a Matrice M210 to cover the fire's progress and helped the ground team in their operations to save one of the oldest and certainly one of the best known churches on our planet.
Normally, flying above Paris is impossible due to proximity of the Bourget airport and DJI's geo-fencing technology 2.0 above the city. But it seems that teams were agile enough to temporarily unlock the system and allow firefighters to operate quickly.
An “extinguisher robot” was also used inside the cathedral, allowing firefighters to put out the flames without putting any lives at risk. A fireman told media that the drones had been a tremendous help to save Notre Dame de Paris.
"The drones allowed us to use in the best possible way what we had at our disposal"
Notre Dame de Paris was severely damaged by the fire that ravaged its roof, spire, stained glass window, and pipe organ. Police say the fire was likely an accident, potentially caused by ongoing renovation work. The French government has a daunting task ahead. The fire at Notre Dame de Paris destroyed its roof and spire and damaged a 62-foot stained glass window along with one of the world’s largest pipe organs. Priceless stonework was likely weakened by the extreme heat. Repairs will be arduous and expensive.
We hope to see Notre Dame de Paris recover quickly, and we believe it will. It already received within 2 weeks, 700 Million €, an astronomical amount showing how much the building was loved around the world. If you wish to give a little or a lot, you can do such here (we certainly did). 🕍
