Drones in Myanmar

Hi! I am planning a trip to Myanmar, and I just read terrible stories about people in jail and confiscated drones. Has anyone been there With a drone? Were you able to get permissions?

thanks!

Hi Jose, we've shared a research about drone laws in Myanmar earlier this year; https://www.drone-made.com/post/myanmar-burma-drone-laws Most important is to stay away from crowds and manifestations, you should be fine in the country side but its always good to ask permission to local police. All the bad news you might have read is usually about journalist looking for a scoop or individuals flying over parliaments and military places...

Unless you have the documents for customs, the drone gets confiscated there. I have tried everything to speak with customs, but I have been unsuccessful. Wouldn’t you anybody that has been able to make it?

thanks

Hi

As we are travelling to Myanmar too I asked the Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Geneva (CH) for help. They wrote me the following message:

Dear sir,

Accordingly, you can bring your drown in your hand carry. You need to please declare it with the Passenger declaration form , which you will have in the plane before landing. Also, please make sure you bring back your drone with you upon leaving Myanmar. Please also see these websites :

and provided me the attached PDF.

Hope this may be helpful :).

Cheers, Stefan

So just to clarify: if we want to use our drone in Myanmar we have to declare it upon arrival and get the permit as well?

Hi Paolo, everything we know is written in the Myanmar post but basic answer is you will need to declare it upon your arrival. Permits are depending on where you want to fly within the country as for e.g. the region of Yangon has prohibited the flight in the 16 following cities: North Okkalapa, New East and North Dagaon, Insein, Hlaingthaya, Shwepyitha, Mayangon, Hlaing, Kamayut, Kyimyindaing, Sanchaung, Bahan, Seikkyi Kanaungto, Mingaladon, Hlawgu and Htantapin townships. Please share with us your experience once there and get some amazing aerial footage so we can improve info for all :) Have a great time!

Hi to all. We just arrived in Myanmar and wanted to share my experience. Before our Journey we asked the embassy of Myanmar in Geneva about the process and the documents to import a drone. They told us that we have to declare the drone upon arrival on the customs form.

So, we arrived at 1am in the morning. A mandatory custom form does not exist. We had our drone in the hand luggage. We moved through immigrations with our eVisa and headed to the baggage belt. The bags arrived, we took them and walked through the customs. Some officials stood there and a more or less big x-ray machine was in work. For a short moment we thought of asking someone about the drone but as they showed us the way out, we didn‘t and moved on :).

I habe no news about what would happen if they would check the bags and find a drone. But from my gut feeling and the fact that Myanmar is in preparation of a drone law, no one cares I think.

In an official customs paper I read that if you carry a movie camera with you (a real big one for documentaries and so) they will take it away, store it and give it back to you when you leave.

From my experience, don‘t be scared about the stories. Take your drone with you in whatever bag you want.

I know, this is not a solid suggestion, but I hope this may help :).
